Urban stormwater management is a critical aspect of city planning, as it plays a pivotal role in ensuring public safety and preventing potential damage to property and infrastructure caused by flooding. This webcast will discuss “outside the box” thinking for urban stormwater mitigation, focusing on how large-scale underground detention systems can be effectively integrated within the public right-of-way beneath municipal streets. The presentation will center around two case studies from Lake Forest, Ill., and Glenview, Ill.
During this session, attendees will learn about each project’s history, alternative analysis, design and construction challenges, the inclusion of a stormwater lift station, and the recommended solutions. The webcast also will highlight the role of stakeholder engagement in shaping the outcome of these projects. Learning Objectives
Moffitt, P.E., CFM, is the technical director of Water Resources and leads Baxter & Woodman’s Water Resources Department. He has well-rounded project experience in planning, analysis, modeling, design, bidding and construction (including design-build) of open and closed drainage systems, detention/retention systems, native areas restoration, roadways, utilities, and other civil sites, with a specific focus on sustainability and resiliency. Moffitt is an active participant in many industry organizations, including APWA, ACEC and BACOG.
Siegfried has 17 years of experience in the field of water resources engineering, focused on stormwater design and floodplain management. He works closely with municipalities to identify, plan and implement stormwater improvement projects that will best serve their communities. Siegfried’s experience includes flood-mitigation projects, public and private developments, floodplain and floodway analyses and remapping, green infrastructure design, permitting, engineering, and review.
